There is a rainbow painted over the street crossing connecting Parc de Bruxelles to the front of the Belgian Parliament. It’s not the only one in town. There are many others. Some connect streets to the European Parliament, some to the market, and some to public squares. These pedestrian crossings are used by tens of thousands of people each day. Probably even more. And in Europe, probably millions of people cross the street over such pedestrian crossings and view or are coerced to view the rainbow and be hit in the face by its meaning.
Back in Belgium, Brussels in particular, rainbow flags hang from buildings as well, fluttering in the wind. It seems Brussels revels in sodomy, having shed its Christian morality and traditional values some time ago.
Two Sundays ago I was rather struck by the rainbow pedestrian crossing next to the Belgian Parliament as I was approaching the metro station to go to church. As I neared the park’s side exit a young African woman took a picture of the rainbow. I did as well. I expressed my disbelief and disapproval of the street crossing being painted over in the colors of the rainbow which, I added, was a reflection of decadence and the embrace by Belgium of a new identity, the rainbow identity.
She replied she lived and worked in Switzerland where public benches are painted in the colors of the rainbow. She seemed upset as well, shrugging her shoulders in dismay and not understanding why someone’s private behavior should be cast into the public view. I opined the use of the public space, particularly in such strategic and meaningful spots in the city, conveyed acceptance by the state of a particular ideology and point of view which the public was forced to accept and embrace.
Members of the European Parliament, particularly from Eastern Europe, have complained recently that their children are exposed to inappropriate sexual ideology in Belgium’s public schools, and that aberrant sexual behavior, as well as children manifesting it, make center stage in schools and enjoy more attention from teachers than children raised in traditional homes. Hopefully, the MEPs are now waking up to the damage the European Parliament has done for decades to virtue and sound morals.
Some progressive cities in the United States have also adopted the rainbow pedestrian crossings style. But in some of them, particularly in the North-West, citizens have successfully sued municipalities to remove them, claiming the presence of the rainbow street crossings is a distraction for many and reflects the public authorities’ embrace of a particular view of sexuality. They argued this amounted to viewpoint discrimination, an argument some courts have adopted.
Europe needs to shed its addiction to bizarre and toxic sexual ideologies. They have never served the public good and never will.
